PART 1:  "Who Represents you in the Texas State Legislature and find a Bill"

Objective: Students will know who represents them in the Texas State Legislature and students will find a bill about an issue that is of interest to them and be able to understand the process and outcome of the bill.

1) Who is the Texas Senator who represents the district you live in?

2) Who is the member of the Texas House of Representatives for the district you live in?

QUESTIONS:

1. A) List the name of both the senator and member of the House of Representatives and district numbers.
2. B) List three (3) issues that are important to the legislators (Senate and House) and explain the issues.

3) Find a bill (any status) in the Texas State Legislature.

1. A) What is the bill title and number?
2. B) What is the bill seeking to accomplish (look at the text, title, and summary)?
3. C) Who is the author of the Bill?
4. D) Are there sponsors of the Bill?

If yes, name the sponsors.  If more than three, just state the number of sponsors. (Example: There are 15 senators supporting the bill.)

1. E) What is the outcome of the Bill? (What is the current status of the bill).  Must be thoroughly stated.

 4) Why did you select the bill?  (answer must be at least one paragraph 6 sentences for this question)

PART 2: TEXAS JUDICIAL BRANCH

1. Describe the organization of the judicial branch in Texas. What are the different courts in Texas, and what are their specific functions?  Answers must be thoroughly explained.
