Problem

Project: Select a specific company and research its current practices in terms of knowledge management; elaborate a series of knowledge management initiatives to enhance its current practice.

The task should be taken as if you have been hired as external consultants. The deliverable will be a report to senior management that briefly analyses the current situation, but mainly provides recommendations and initiatives to improve KM in the organization.

You will need to research a company, which may be a small or medium sized company that you are familiar with, or a larger more well-known company.

At the very least, the report should:

State the name of the company and very briefly describe the market that it operates in (geographical and industrial).

Briefly describe its current practice.

Describe the nature of information and knowledge handled by the company and detect any existing gaps where knowledge management is required.

Recommend initiatives that would fill those gaps or result in a significant improvement in the way knowledge is handled in the organization. The initiatives should address both intangible and system based aspects of KM. When stating the initiatives, you should state why you think they will benefit the organization. Think about the return that would be obtained from their implementation; the initiatives should be listed in order of greatest anticipated return.

Give an indication of how long it might take to implement the initiatives, and, if you can easily research it, the cost.
