Assignment : Franchisee Interview Assignment
Overview
The purpose of this assignment is to compare the perspectives of the franchisee. Included in this comparison are franchise philosophy, benefits, and failures. To accomplish this, you will interview a franchisee of your choosing.
Objectives
To successfully complete this project, you will be expected to apply what you have learned in this course and should include several of the following course objectives:
1. Critically assess the pros and cons of a franchise.
2. Identify who the franchise agreement is written for-franchisee or franchisor.
3. Further develop interviewing skills.
Main Elements
The final project will consist of a 3-to-5-page paper. Your final paper should include the following elements:
1. Introduction: Provide an introduction to the franchise brand that your interviewee represents. Provide on background the franchisee (include information such as how long the franchisee has been in business, how many locations the franchisee owns, etc.)
2. Meeting Description: Describe the meeting and explain what was covered and key issues that are viewed differently. Identify the questions you asked each interviewee and why you asked the questions. It may be helpful to record your interview so you can do a thorough analysis of each interview.
3. Critical points: Discuss the franchisee's perspective of the franchise brand and their relationship with the franchisor. How does their perspective of the relationship differ or align with the viewpoint shared in your readings on the importance of the franchisee/franchisor relationship?
4. Conclusion: Be sure to also include a critical assessment that discusses what you, as a franchisor, would do differently to help the franchisee better capitalize on the benefits of the franchise.
Interviewing is more art than science; therefore, your follow-up questions are just as important as your starter questions. YOU WILL CREATE YOUR OWN INTERVIEW QUESTIONS! Listen and delve deeper into the statements of the interviewee. Possible starter questions include the following:
• What is the mission or vision of this franchise?
• What type of a franchise is it?
• How long have you been a franchisee/franchisor?
• Are the fees fairly distributed?
• Overall, are you satisfied with the relationship you have with your franchisees/franchisors? Why? Why not?
• Proofread the paper for spelling and grammatical issues, and third person writing.
o Use the spell and grammar check in Word as a first measure;
o Have someone who has excellent English skills to proof the paper
o Consider submitting the paper to the Effective Writing Center (EWC). The EWC will provide 4-6 areas that may need improvement.
