As a class, we will watch Cultural Diversity: Tips for Communicating with Cultural Awareness and then discuss the following:

• Describe a time when you encountered a communication problem with someone from a different culture.
• What happened?
• What was the issue/problem?
• How did you resolve it?

In-Class Activity: Image Perception

For this activity, break into small groups and individually write notes about the images that come to mind when you read the keywords listed below. Write the words that came to your mind in either noun or adjective form. For example, when you look at the word "rain," you may think of the words such as "umbrella," "gloomy," "tears," and so forth. Don't spend too much time on each word-trust your intuition. When you write your words, describe why you think that specific adjective or noun came up to your mind.

Once you've completed the list, compare your answer with those of the members in your group and discuss the following:

• What similarities and differences did you find?
• Did you find any socio-cultural influences in your responses and your classmates' responses?
• Describe your findings.
