We discussed how clathrin coats lead to formation of vesicles at the plasma membrane and how this process functions in receptor-mediated endocytosis.

(A) Describe the mechanism of formation of vesicles by clathrin coats.

Hint: Aside from cargo and/or cargo receptors, your answer should describe three (3) proteins and how each contributes to the various stages of clathrin coat formation to produce a vesicle loaded with cargo from the plasma membrane.

(B) How does the cell ensure that clathrin coats only form on specific membranes (e.g. the plasma membrane)?

Hint: In other words, how is formation of clathrin coats regulated? Your explanation should include a protein (or protein complex) and a lipid, and how they control the start of formation of clathrin coats.

(C) What is the mechanism by which a defect in a specific aspect of clathrin coat formation impacts the levels of cholesterol in the blood?

Hint: your answer should mention among other things how cholesterol is transported in the bloodstream
