International Business and Finance
Assessment - Case Study
Your Task
Students will select and research an ASX listed company which conducts business internationally. A 1200-word report examining aspects of the company's international business and finance will be submitted in Week 10.
Assessment Description
Students will:
develop a report, using concepts learned in Workshops 1 to 9, describe the international business aspects of their selected company, consider the business' reliance on international financial markets, and review an international business challenge experienced by the company.
Assessment Instructions
Students will be required to select an ASX listed company from the list provided in this document. Students are required to receive approval of their selection from their facilitator. Hire writer now!
Students are expected to conduct independent research into the company, utilising sources such as (but not necessarily limited to): the company's Annual Report and related information, IBISWorld reports, ratings agency or other analyst reports, and a general search (perhaps including the Australian Financial Review).
The report is required to have the following sections.
Introduction
An overview of the company and its international business aspects. This can be expected to cover (but need not be limited to) a description of the business':
overall operations, and
international aspects, such as whether the international business involvement is primarily through trade or foreign investment.
International Business Analysis
Specific detail of the company's international business. This can be expected to include (but need not be limited to):
descriptive information regarding the nature of international business activities,
relevant data regarding the business' overseas aspects, presented in tables and/or charts, and
an assessment of the importance of the international aspects of the business to the overall company.
International Financial Markets
Discussion of how the company relies upon international financial markets. This can be expected to include consideration of:
offshore borrowing (direct or through bond issuance),
overseas equity financing, and/or
foreign exchange transactions - for example, related to international sales/purchases.
Actual examples should be provided, where possible.
Where actual examples cannot be identified, indicative examples may be provided (describing a typical foreign exchange transaction the business may engage in, for example).
International Business Challenge
Based on your research, select a specific business challenge the company has experienced as a result of its international business. This is expected to be an actual situation that has arisen or is part of ‘business as usual'. Discussion should include:
the nature of the challenge
actual / potential consequences, and
solutions / remedies implemented by the company.
The challenge could be the management of foreign exchange exposure.
Where an actual challenge cannot be identified, determine a realistic, and likely, challenge the business may face, including:
the nature of the challenge
potential consequences, and
possible solutions / remedies.
Bibliography
A correctly presented Bibliography is required (see the Referencing section later in this document for further information).
