CLASSMATE'S POST:

For my scholarly activity, I am choosing to study the opioid problem that is occurring in the world today. As a paramedic, I go on a drug related call almost daily. The area that I live in, meth and heroin are a huge problem. The opioid issue that is happening every day is becoming deadly and is continuing to get worse. The main topic I will be discussing in my scholarly activity is the percentage of users and what the rate of success is for those attempting rehab. This topic is significant because it is such a huge problem and it does not take much for someone to fall in the trap of addiction and become another statistic. I have dealt personally with opioid addiction with a family member so this topic is something that is familiar with me and something that has my interest. Sample size is important within this topic because we are able to get a look at how many of the opioid users are actually attempting to get help and out of those that are attempting, then we will see how many are actually successful in the process.
