1. Describe the immediate and compensatory changes (over 3 mins) in heart rate, stroke volume, venous return, total peripheral resistance, and MAP that occur after standing from a supine position. Describe how these effects differs when a person was passively tilted from a lying to a standing position (on a tilt table). Hint: Consider how these actions differ in terms of accompanying skeletal muscle activation.

2. Describe the effects that local tissue metabolism and the myogenic response can have on local arteriole diameter. Ensure that you describe why it is relevant that changes in metabolism affect arteriole diameter, and the relevance of the myogenic response during postural changes.

3. Most physiological processes involve sensory receptors, an integrating centre, and efferent output to effector organs. Briefly describe the reflex regulation of MAP within this context. Ensure you describe the specific targets of each branch of the autonomic nervous system in your response. You are not expected to provide detail beyond what was delivered/experienced in your lectures and the practical class.
