Machinability and phase transformation

Synopsis of the task and its context

You are to write a report on the following machining related topics: Machinability evaluation, phase transformation and High Speed Machining (HSM). Your report will consist of the following

  • Describe the machinability evaluation criteria, is it a quantitative or qualitative evaluation?
    • Describe the phase transformation reaction during machining and associated work hardening? What is TRIP (Transformation Induced Plasticity) effect?

Elaborate on the capabilities and limitations of each work hardening.

Give an example in the Phase transformation for a particular metal alloy and may need to refer to its phase diagrams and CCT diagrams.

  • Describe the High Speed Machining of Steel/Iron or Aluminium
