Using at least three sources from outside of class, research an example of occupational crime or corporate crime. Remember, occupational and corporate harms are not always characterized as "crime," so feel free to get creative and search for examples that might otherwise be seen as corruption, illegitimate/questionable corporate practices, or forms of harm occurring in the workplace.
1. First, describe what happened. What organizations, individuals, or other responsible parties were involved? What events lead to the harm?
2. Next, describe the harm that resulted from the crime. Who was impacted and how? Be sure to consider financial, physical, social, and environmental harms, as relevant.
3. Drawing on the definitions in the textbook Crimes of the Powerful, explain why this case is an example of occupational or corporate crime.
4. Attempt to explain why this harm occurred. In your opinion, are any of the theories at the individual, organizational, or institutional level (e.g. politics, economy, culture, etc.) reviewed in Ch. 3 help explain why the harm occurred?
5. Cite all references used in the assignment, but at least three from outside class (e.g. news articles, academic journals, documentaries, government/corporate/nonprofit reports, etc.)
