How to write a reflective report
Please take the time to carefully analyse these four stages
1. Describe the duties performed and time involved.
What happened? Describe a critical event.
2. Reflect
How did you feel and how do you think your actions affected others?
What was your reaction and why did this happen? (Cognitive and emotional)
Identify specific emotions; this is very important to be able to really understand triggers for change.
Analyse the learning event, issue or situation in relation to prior knowledge, feelings or attitudes.
What were the consequences of that feeling?
Is there anything you could have done differently to make the emotional impact on yourself and others better?
3. Link to theory
Relate to literature that will help you understand what happened and help you develop in the future professionally and/or personally.
4. Learning
What have you learnt?
Have you gained a new understanding of the learning event, issue or situation?
Indicate how this event, issue or situation will affect your future behaviour or attitude, what skills have you developed or hope to develop from this event, issue or situation.
How will you approach the same or similar event, issue or situation in the future?
What have you learnt about yourself through this process?
