Lead and Manage Organisational Change Assignment -
Assessment overview - Throughout this unit you are required to answer short answer questions and provide an analyses of an organisation change improvement. This improvement can be current of new to the workplace. You will be required to develop and implement and monitor a change improvement plan.
Short Answer Questions and Project Assessment -
SPECIFIC TASK INSTRUCTIONS - In the sections below, are the details of the report, major assignment, workplan, reflection, portfolio or other items this assessment task requires, as well as the criteria for satisfactory completion.
TASK 1: Short Answer Questions
a. List some of the key drivers of change and improvement facing organisations.
b. Describe one internal example and one external example of factors driving change and improvements in your business. Outline the implications and/or impact these changes and improvements have had, or will have, on your organisation.
TASK 2: Short Answer Questions
You are required to complete the following short answer questions that describe the change culture and examples of relevant workplace changes and roles of leaders and managers in this change.
a. Describe the dominant change culture of your organisation and what influences the culture, based on:
- the type of business your organisation engages in
- the leadership style of senior management
b. Using an example of a workplace change you have experienced, comment on the effectiveness of your organisations change management processes and improvement. Explain why you believe the change improvement process is effective, or not.
c. Describe the strategic need and benefit of this change/innovation improvement, and how it linked to the organisation's vision, mission and strategic objectives.
d. Explain why you believe the change improvement process is effective, or not.
e. Explain the different roles leaders and managers take on, in your organisation, in a change and improvement process. Include a comparison of the difference between the roles of leader and manager.
TASK 3: Change and Innovation Improvement Project
Identify a requirement/opportunity for change improvement process that is relevant to your role in your organisation. Your example can be major or minor, and can be implemented in the short term or long term. This will be used for Tasks 3 - 5.
Explain:
- how you identified the opportunity for change and improvement
- how your decisions/actions were affected by your organisation's strategic plan, mission and vision, policy and practices
- how your decisions/actions were affected by your organisation's culture and structure the key stakeholders you identified and their role in your decision making
- the processes used to gather and analyse the data
- the role of consultation in the data gathering and analysis processes
NOTE: Please provide documentary evidence of the information and data you used to identify the change requirement/opportunity.
TASK 4: Change and Innovation Improvement Project
Plan a change improvement initiative to address the requirements/opportunity you have identified.
a. Choose a change model that is suitable for your workplace and explain why you have selected it.
Note: If your organisation already has a well-established change process, identify it and outline how it came about.
b. Provide an outline of the key stages in the change model you will use. For each of the key stages in the change process, identify and outline the:
- key stakeholders
- risk factors at each stage
- potential barriers and/or resistance you will encounter
- consultation and communication requirements
- consultation and approval processes
- leadership and management roles and/or actions required
TASK 5: Change and Innovation Improvement Project
Develop a change management project plan to implement and support your change improvement initiative. Provide a copy of your change improvement plan (and other relevant documentation) including: change improvement initiative objectives
- strategies for engaging commitment from senior management for the change improvement initiative and the implementation process
- risk management considerations and contingency plan
- strategies to deal with individual/team resistance
- consultation and communication strategies
- education/training strategies, if applicable
- strategies for supporting and encouraging involvement and participation by key stakeholders
- strategies for maintaining momentum
- the implementation process, including: time lines, budget if applicable, resource allocation, project milestones, success measures, monitoring strategies.
- Implement your plan and apply your monitoring processes. Provide evidence to show how you: encourage involvement and provide opportunities for participation and contribution by key stakeholders/individuals/teams
- List and describe the purpose of three reports that may be used by an organisation to report on performance of your change improvement.
- Explain why the management of risk is a necessary consideration when implementing innovative ideas. Provide an example to illustrate.
- Describe three ways in which innovation can be promoted in an organisation.
