ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS

Course description

The course extensively covers the fundamentals of electronic circuits using devices such as operational amplifiers, Diodes, MOSFETS and BJTs. It also covers the different configurations, applications, and techniques used to design and analyze the performance of electronic circuits. The course also introduces software packages used in the design of electronic circuits.

Course objectives

This course aims at enabling students to:

1. Understand the mode of operation, configurations and applications of operational amplifiers in analog signal processing (signal amplifiers, analog filter design)

2. Understand the underlying theory of operation of semiconductor diodes and their application in regulator circuits, rectifier circuits and power supply units.

3. Describe the different transistor configurations and applications such as switching circuits and amplifiers

4. Analyze the frequency response of transistor based circuits

5. Understand the underlying principles and relevance of feed back in the design of electronic circuits

6. Apply software packages in the design and analysis of electronic circuits

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

1. Describe the mode of operation, configurations and applications of operational amplifiers in electronic circuits

2. Demonstrate skills in the application of semiconductor diodes in voltage regulator circuits, clamping circuits, voltage doublers and rectifier circuits

3. Apply BJTs and MOSFETS in the design of electronic circuits for switching and signal amplification

4. Analyze the frequency response of transistor based circuits

5. Appreciate the importance of feed back on the performance of electronic circuits

6. Demonstrate skills in the application of software ware simulation packages in the design of electronic circuits
