Purpose of this assignment

To develop knowledge and understanding of the influence culture, politics and power have on the behaviour of others in an organisational context. Students will apply the principles of organisational behaviour to a variety of business situations. They will explore key influences which affect the behaviour of individuals, teams and organisations.

Read the Toyota Motors case study and Exhibit 1 (attached) and address the following points with reference to the case.

1. Discuss the characteristics and importance of organizational culture.

2. Describe the culture at Toyota Motor Corporation.

3. Critically analyse how did a long standing culture that had such a strong commitment to quality lose its ability to influence employee behaviour and actions.

4. Critically evaluate the importance of Mr. Toyota for apologising on behalf of the company's decisions. Why was it necessary? (Think in terms of the company's stakeholders.)

5. What could other organisations learn from Toyota's experiences and the importance of organisational culture& power?

TASK 2: CASE STUDY 2: Organisation A & Organisation B

Read the Case Study 2 (attached) and address the following points with reference to the case.

1. If you had a choice, which organisation out of these two would you like to work with? Critically evaluate your choice.

2. "Motivating employees is one of the most consistent challenges a manager faces." Critically analyse this statement and mention if you agree/disagree to it.

3. Support Q2 with the use of one or more of these following theories:

o Equity theory

o Reinforcement theory

TASK 3 & 4 - Addresses the LO3 & LO4

TASK 3: TUCKMAN THEORY

Address the following points based on Tuckman Theory

1. Discuss and explain stages of team building as per Tuckman theory.

2. Discuss and explain factors and skills that assist or hinder effective teamwork.

3. What factors are instrumental in teams effectively achieving their objectives? Critically analyse the effectiveness of teamwork in achieving goals in the workplace.

4. Identify the aspects that threaten successful achievement and cohesive group work.

5. Analyse the benefits of working in a team.

TASK 4: CASE STUDY 4: Airlines

Read the Case Study 4 and address the following points with reference to the case.

1. As this story illustrated, sometimes teams have to move quickly. How do you get a team up and running quickly? Apply a relevant theory to explain the same.

2. In a crisis situation such as this, what role does a team leader have to play? Explain and Evaluate.

3. Using Exhibit 2, critically analyse characteristics of effective teams, and which of them would this case study team need?
