Question 1. Analyze the differences between prerenal, intrarenal and postrenal causes of ARI giving examples of common causes of each.
Question 2. Develop a chart to do this listing: assessment findings of a client with CRI. Start from head and work down
(neuro, cardiac, pulmonary etc.).
Question 3. Discuss the purpose, underlying principles and rationales of the three types of dialysis: hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and continuous renal replacement.
Question 4. Discuss the laboratory values that are altered for the clients with ARI/CRI including: hemoglobin, hematocrit, blood sugar, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine; coagulation profile; sodium, calcium, potassium, and phosphate.
Question 5. Analyze the differences in the three major types of access sites to the client's circulation used to perform hemodialysis (central line, AV graft etc.) noting location, use and possible complications involved in each using a chart format.
Question 6. Describe the criterion for selection and ethical-legal dilemmas in the care of a renal transplantation client (selection of candidates, adherence to post transplant regimen, etc.).
Question 7. Develop a teaching/learning nursing care plan with important teaching/learning concepts when preparing a recipient and donor for renal transplantation.
Question 8. Develop a three-day diet for a client with CRI. Be prepared to defend why specific electrolytes/substances (sodium, potassium, phosphate, calcium and iron) and foods are included/limited.
Question 9. Using the ATI Active Learning Template, handwrite important information about the following medications: calcium acetate (Phoslo), furosemide, epoetin alpha ; Iron therapy etc.). Also bring previously developed ALT on antihypertensives.
