Describe the similarities and differences in the two major descending motor pathways -- the lateral pathways and the ventromedial pathways. For lateral pathways, explain and describe the corticospinal tract, corticobulbar tract and rubrospinal tract and explain how they control -- distal muscles, particularly the flexors, facial and head muscles. For the ventromedial pathways, explain how they maintain balance and posture, orientate head toward visual stimuli, and liberate the extensor muscles from reflex control.
