Description of Task

Select an organisation of your choice. Ideally, you should select an organisation where you currently work or have worked in the past, or an organisation that you would like to work for in the future.

Drawing on your understanding of the industry, the organisation, and the HRD challenges you have experienced or identified and key HRD theoretical frameworks, examine the HRD process in your selected organisation.

In your answer, consider:

o What are the key challenges of using HRD in the organisation?

o What aspects of HRD are done well in the organisation?

o What recommendations would you give to the organisation to improve HRD and its impact on both individual and organisational performance?

Assignment 2: STRATEGIC HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Part A

Your essay must be typed and have standard margins on all sides. Double spacing or 1.5 line spacing are preferred.

Select an organisation of your choice. Ideally, you should select an organisation where you currently work or have worked in the past, or an organisation that you would like to work for in the future.

Your task is to:

o Describe the context of the organisation you have selected, including the nature of the industry, the level of competitiveness within the industry, the key external stakeholders and the current trends in the industry; and

o Describe the organisation, including the nature of the work undertaken, the products and services created, the current strategy being pursued and the current level of organisational performance.

o Identify five key challenges facing the practice of SHRM in the organisation.

Part B

Drawing on your understanding of the industry, the organisation, and the SHRM challenges you have identified in Part A and key SHRM/HPWS theoretical frameworks, examine the HRM-performance chain in your selected organisation.

In your answer, consider:

o What recommendations would you give to the organisation to improve the impact of SHRM on both individual and organisational performance?

o What key lessons do you take from this assignment that will enable you to become a more effective HRM practitioner?
