Scenario
While moving through a public area of the property, you overhear some flippant discussion between service team members and a delivery person from one of your regular suppliers. The conversation refers to the high number of guests from specific ethnic background, and the delivery driver uses derogatory terms in the discussion.
This raises concerns for you that the external suppliers are not aware of your organisation's commitment to diversity in the workplace. You also decide it is important to refresh knowledge of the Workplace Discrimination and Harassment Policy for the entire service team.
1. In approximately 150 words, describe the content and methods of communication you would use to advise the supplier of these concerns.
2. Using the information you have developed above, write a script to use in a role-play of a service team meeting. (Arrange with your assessor for them to observe your role play and note their observation in the observation checklist in Appendix 3.)
Outline for the team how working effectively with difference can be a positive for the organisation and its services, operations and customer relations.
In your script, remind the team that they must acknowledge their understanding of the anti-discrimination and harassment clauses of the policy by signing a document at the end of the session. Be sure to include potential consequences for team members who disregard the policy guidelines.
