Mechanical force switches are used in applications where only a force limit, rather than a continuous force signal, has to be detected. Examples include detecting closure force (torque) in valve closing, detecting fi t in parts assembly, automated clamping devices, robotic grippers and hands, overload protection devices in process/machine monitoring, and product filling in containers by weight. Expensive and sophisticated force sensors are not needed in such applications because a continuous history of a force signal is not needed. Furthermore, they are robust and reliable and can safely operate in hazardous environments. Using a sketch, describe the construction of a simple spring-loaded force switch
Consider natural convection from a horizontal heated surface. Use Buckingham Pi Theorem to determine which dimensionless number you would used to investigate this phenomenon.
Suppose you are working for a start-up company that is designing a very new and innovative product. Does the client–user–designer model still apply? Who is your client in this case? Since you don’t have any customers yet, who are the users and how ca..
In the off-mode the chip is in thermal equilibrium with the coolant (Ti = T8). When the chip is energized, however, its temperature increases until a new steady-state is established.

Given a lifting (rotating) cylinder in cross flow of radius a with a lift coefficient of C1=5, calculate the peak (suction) pressure coefficient, Cp. Use potential flow relations and assume 2-D.
Refrigerant 134a flows at steady state through a horizontal tube having an inside diameter of .05 m. The refrigerant enters the tube with a quality of .1, temperature of 36 C, and velocity of 10 m/s. The refrigerant exits the tube at 9 bar as a satur..
