Management of Conflict

Consider two recent conflict situations that you experienced which were not resolved satisfactorily. Choose one at an interpersonal level, and the other at a group or organizational level1.

For each situation of conflict:

1. Describe the context in which the conflict occurred.

2. Describe the conflict and actions taken by both parties. What conflict handling styles were used (use the framework discussed in class)?

3. What was the outcome of this conflict?

4. Analyze the conflict using what you have learned from the class

a. What were the sources of the conflict?

b. Consider the concerns and interests of the opposite party neutrally.

c. What conflict handling style will you use now? Describe this in some detail. Consider negotiation strategies that might help.
