She has been diagnosed with well-advanced breast cancer and she must begin treatment as soon as possible according to medical indications. She goes to social work services voluntarily. She reported no legal problems at the time of the interview. In response to the social worker's response, she reported having an income of $500 per month of social security for widowhood. Doña Petrica indicated: "My income was reduced when my husband died, I cannot afford health insurance, now I have the Government reform and I do not know how they will respond to my treatment."
She narrated: "That she lives alone and usually watches television to feel accompanied and that she listens to someone. "She enjoys reading." "I am a positive person, but the family situation overwhelms me," "I go to church and I have faith in God." TS made a referral to the Mayor's Office of her town, to coordinate transportation to medical appointments and for home care for the elderly. She agreed that on a subsequent appointment, the lady would provide her with the phone numbers of her two nephews to establish communication with them,
She explains that she was referred to the Mayor's Office of her town, she perceived that she was well received. She narrated that the young man who treated her read the referral aloud, who shared with her that they cannot offer transportation to all of her appointments.
She made an appointment for the case manager to interview her about the home caregiver services. Mrs. Petrica expressed to the TS her dissatisfaction with the service at the Mayor's Office.
After listening to her, TS proceeded to discuss the case with her supervisors and colleagues to explore other support resources for the lady.
After the case was presented at the departmental meeting, a colleague expressed that the lady was too old and whether it was worthwhile to coordinate treatment and resources. TS was outraged by this response and left the meeting.
