The Library of Congress occupies three buildings on Capitol Hill. It is the largest library in the world. Today's Library of Congress is an unparalleled world resource. The collection of more than 173 million items includes more than 51 million cataloged books and other print materials in 470 languages; more than 75 million manuscripts; the largest rare book collection in North America; and the world's largest collection of legal materials, films, maps, sheet music and sound recordings. Even so, most people have no idea what the Library of Congress is, what it does, what is housed there, or how it may be used.

Locate the Library of Congress website on your own. I will be honest; given that this is the library of the nation, I would expect a better-organized and more user-friendly website. Nevertheless, every teacher should have at least a rudimentary knowledge of the facility, so please explore the website and get a feel for it.
Provide the following information in your discussion:
What is the Library of Congress, and whom does it serve? Which important office whose function and regulations relate to and are described in this course is located in the Library of Congress? Can you check books out from the library? There are seven reading rooms available to readers and researchers in the library. One of these is the Children's Literature Center. Name the others.
Finally, describe the Children's Literature Center. Tell me what is available there. Find one thing that surprises you about the Children's Literature Center.
