Case Scenario - Jonathan
Early childhood educator, Mark, noticed that newly enrolled Jonathan (2 years) got very agitated and started crying uncontrollably when lunch was announced and indoor play time had to stop. It took quite some time to calm Jonathan down and get him to eat his lunch.
When lunch ended and it was time for the children to begin outdoor activities, Jonathan reacted in the same uncontrollable manner. Mark decided to make observations of Jonathan's behaviour over several weeks and noticed that whenever there was an abrupt change of routine, Jonathan reacted in a similar manner.
Mark later learned that Jonathan has been diagnosed with sensory processing disorder.
