Describe the biochemistry of the lipid macromolecule. When an organism is deprived of food for a long time it catabolizes its bodily stores of fats, carbohydrates, proteins, and nucleic acids for energy. Why are fats and carbohydrates used for this purpose before proteins and nucleic acids? What would be the consequences of nucleic acid catabolism on living organisms? Explain.
