Instructions
You've learned a lot in the class about the physical, cognitive, and social development of children. Now is your chance to apply that knowledge, and hopefully have some fun doing it. You will be analyzing four short videos.
In the first video, 26-month-old Roman shows you how to make a cake. Watch this video and takes notes about his gross and fine motor skills, his language skills, and his interactions with his mother.
The second video shows Roman at 42 months making snow man ice cream. Watch this video and take notes about his gross and fine motor skills, his language skills, and his interactions with his mother. How have they changed? How has his appearance changed?
The third video shows 5-year-old Hailey making popovers. Watch this video and takes notes about her gross and fine motor skills, her language skills, and her interactions with her sister. Compare her abilities to Roman. How are they different?
The fourth video shows Hailey, now seven years old, making crepes with her grandmother and sister. Watch this video and takes notes about her gross and fine motor skills, her language skills, and her interactions with her sister. Compare her abilities to her video from age 5.
Once you have watched all four videos and taken notes on Roman and Hailey's development you are now ready to write your paper. Your paper should be 5 pages long plus a cover page. In it, you need to describe how these videos illustrate the physical, cognitive, social, and language development of Roman and Hailey.
Your paper should focus on (1) what behaviours Roman and Hailey show in each video and (2) how these behaviours illustrate their level of development. To do this you will need to both describe the behaviour in the video and talk about specific theories or findings from your textbook. You need to support your observations with reference to specific theories from the course.
You are expected to use your textbook and class notes as references (you may use additional sources). You do not need to submit a reference page or use citations within your paper.
