The objective of this assignment is to critically assess a narrative in Joshua for its literary, historical, and theological information. Read Joshua 7 carefully, and then answer each of the questions below.

Introduction, 7:1

Joshua 7 begins a new narrative in the history of Israel's conquest of the promised land. Notice how the narrative begins with the negative comment on Israel acting "unfaithfully" ("broke faith" ESV). This seems to be pretty ominous. The first verse also clearly links to the previous narrative with the mention of the ban (compare 7:1 to 6:17). Since the ban is an important concept in this narrative, it is important to define it.
