Learning Outcome 1: Understand the limitations of Internet technologies
Learning Outcome 2: Describe the architecture Open based network technologies and their
Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate an understanding of Open based network technologies and their integration into AI, Machine learning, NLP and Data analytics for Collaborative Cognitive Computing Systems and interworking with IoT technologies
Learning Outcome 4: Explain how Open based network technologies can be used to support use cases as defined by B5G and 6G(e.g., Smart City, Immersive Media, Industry 4.0 applications which include, but is not limited to smart cities, connected robotics, Intelligent Chatbots, digital counselling and mentoring, guided selling and social co- learning etc).
Learning Outcome 5: Develop the knowledge necessary to identify and formalise a given technical problem using suitable techniques to design, develop and deploy an open based Collaborative Cognitive Computing Systems and solution.
Coursework Aim:
The students will be required to undertake a group project to develop a testbed to implement the knowledge they have learned through different topics during the semester. The assessment requires the students to incorporate all the learned technologies in a single testbed/simulation. The group will comprise of (2-3) students, the group size will enable them to engage themselves in a project of appropriate scope and complexity. The collaborative work will also provide them peer-learning opportunities During coursework assessment, each student grade will be derived from the group work using tutor observation and peer group assessment for individual contribution of each student to the given group task through the live demo and presentation. All the students are required to communicate the group project that they are working on as Coursework Testbed implementation/Simulation latest by the end of Week5.
Example projects that could be undertaken as Coursework Project include the following:
• Cloud design, development and analysis: Students may choose to implement OpenStack production-ready implementation and present a performance analysis of for example VM v/s containers. The student would be required to search for online resources to get help in project implementation. A performance comparison study of
DevStack/OpenStack/Vmware may also be undertaking to provide insight on steal time and Bare metal vs dedicated servers comparative analysis.
• Implementation of an innovative framework for Collaborative and Cognitive Communication Systems that can analyse and predict both human as well as machine behaviours. It is expected to proactively diagnoses issues and recommends solutions without requiring any human intervention. The automation and orchestration aspects of this project must focus on one of the application scenarios, which may include city infrastructures, retail, business, tourism, health, law, education and travel.
• Implementation of "Internet of Senses" to demonstrate the latest advancements in exploiting newer theories and techniques of computational psychology that have shown potential to achieve the specified milestones. In order to implement such frameworks, there is need for a systematic understanding of cultural values, norms to investigate behaviour patterns and their systemic linking to Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and communication networks.
• IoT implementation using Raspberry PI and analysis: Students will be required to work with PhD students working in SuITE research group on Fog Computing area to use their test-bed to perform analysis.
• Cloud-based Multimedia Streaming and Transcoding (Student may use a VMware Hypervisor to create VMs to transcode and stream multimedia contents using FFMPEG to support HLS based HTTP streaming, this project can also be developed as Virtual Network functions in OpenStack. The student will require ed to present their analysis and findings.
• Chatbot framework and Conversational Analytics Tools Implementation projects.
• Middleware Data Interoperability and Gateway implementation for heterogeneous IoT devices using Kafka or ACTIVE MQ for a smart city use-case
The above listed are just example projects, the student may choose any one of them or may also propose a project that helps him to implement other emerging and future internet technologies and concepts that he has learned in this module.
Live Project Implementation Demo
Regulations • The Live Project Demos will be conducted on Monday 2nd May and Tuesday 3rd May 2022 during the class and tutorial sessions. Each group member must participate in the demo to give the presentation using a Live Demo of the implementation while executing all the features of the implemented project.
• All the members of the group must be present during the Live Demo using MS Teams. Any absent member will be marked zero, unless they request to re-arrange a demo within two weeks of the demo dates, in which case, the delayed coursework submission rules will apply to cap their marks.
• All the groups are responsible to communicate any special arrangements required to the module leader via email for the smooth execution of the Live Demo. The email request must be
sent at least 10 days before the Demo date. Lack of resources and connectivity will not be accepted as an excuse on the Live Demo Day.
• Each member of the group is expected to explain his/her contribution to the project during the live demo, where he/she will be asked questions about the project to assess their learning against the following marking criteria. Please note that each member will be individually marked during the live demo based on their contribution against the following marking criteria.
• Students will work collaboratively and remotely in a group-based virtual team environment using MS Teams to complete the project and the MS team will be used to present the demo. All Demos will be recorded and may be made available for other students via VLE for knowledge exchange purposes.
