Addicted to the internet. Read the story of Steve, the high school student that needs your help.

Steve first began playing Fortnite when he was twelve years old. This was about the same time that Steve started having feelings of worthlessness, depression, and not wanting to engage with life. He preferred to stay in bed and cry, sometimes uncontrollably. Steve was sometimes sensitive, while at school, to being left out and not fitting in. He would retreat to his Fortnite world, where his same friends existed and were reliable. Since he had this safety net, Steve would manage the pressures of school, and balance the need to fit in by excelling in the classroom, but this pressure also led to perfectionism and obsessive thoughts about failing. Since starting high school, Steve's whole self-worth and value is tied to his performance in class, and any bad grade meant he was a bad person. In order to deal with these feelings of worthlessness, Steve has begun to rely more and more on his online community, logging on to play, sometimes for hours at a time. He has started to ignore things like showering and basic hygiene, and lies to his parents about being sick so he can stay home to play Fortnite. Now that he is about to graduate, his class standing is in jeopardy.
