Assignment:
Scientists, once believed that certain races were less civilized and have lower intelligence when compared to other races. If you look back to 1851, which technically is not long ago, Dr. Samuel Cartwright in Louisiana believed that Negroes had smaller brains and blood vessels thereby making them less intelligent and more barbaric. This notion is known as Scientific Racism. Here is a link that describes scientific racism.
Despite the fact that now we know that all humans share roughly 99.9% common DNA, there are still some scientists that conduct research that falsely claims that one race is different than the other. In 2012, J. Phillip Rushton and Donald Templer published the article (peer reviewed I might add....so others in the scientific community agreed with the research) "Personality and Individual Differences" that concluded that skin color was related to aggression and sexuality in humans.
Here is the other side of the coin (as I have always mentioned; you have to look at ALL the data before making a conclusion). When it comes to Blacks and Whites being prescribed Antihypertensive medication (blood pressure drugs), some drugs work better for Blacks than Whites (and other drugs work better for Whites than Blacks). But if we are 99.9% identical, how is this possible? Why is it possible?
Knowing what you know about genetics and with the additional information you were presented with in this discussion post, do you feel like genetics can support the notion of racism? Why or why not?
