Mrs. Giovanni is a 92 year old widowed immigrant from Italy. she is the caregiver of her youngest child, Antonio, who is 47 years old and has down's syndrome and lives with her in the her home.

Mrs. Giovanni has support once weekly to support her with bathing. Mrs. Giovanni greets you at the door. She is not as bright or cheerful as she usually is. I can see the frown on her face. I look over to find the kitchen looking messy which is unusual for her. She tells you ' I haven't been getting much sleep lately because Antonio has been up all-night playing games on that machine and making lots of noise when he is snacking in the kitchen at night". She continues in a worried voice that "I don't know what to do with him, he won't go to the day program because he sleeps all day. I am exhausted, I don't know how much longer i can go on like this'.

AS you walk into the bathroom, you ask your usual questions about her garden and her plans for cooking that day. Her answer surprises you when she says, "I just don't have the energy to do anything, all i can think about is what I am going to do with my boy Antonio." While she is sitting on the side of the tub removing her stockings you notice Mrs. Giovanni becoming teary.
