After 6 years working in the payroll department, you were recently promoted to the role of Payroll Manager. You manage a team of 4 people whose experience ranges from 18 months to 12 years. As the new manager you are faced with many challenges including dealing with the transition from colleague to boss, the development of a new team, the implementation of new procedures as well as the recruitment of one additional staff member.
There are a number of issues that the Head of Finance would like you to address. They include problems with communication within your team and the lack of motivation among some members of the team. A blame culture is developing, and some cliques are being formed. Most people are unsure of their role and key objectives. Your boss is concerned that if these problems aren't dealt with soon the performance of the team will suffer.
The report should cover these:
1. Describe recruitment method and two selection methods you will use which will ensure that you get the right person for the payroll team. Once the new person joins your team what are your plans during their first 2 months (short term) to ensure that the new recruit will become a productive member of the team as quickly as possible? Decribeat least 3 methods that you will use in your plan. Finally describe 2 different methods (long term) that you can use to maintain a high level of performance during their first 12 months in the company.
2. Name 3 different management theorists that you will use to help you manage your team; explain each theory and then give an example of how you would apply each theory when managing your team.
3. Describe the six steps in delegation .. Identify 3 reasons why a manager might be reluctant to delegate a task to someone on their team.
