o Scenario: A two-hospital nonprofit system has been owned by a Catholic order of nuns for 77 years and is undergoing an acquisition by a large for a for-profit entity. The nonprofit system has been losing millions of dollars annually for the past five years. The task of the for-profit system is to integrate the nonprofit system into the standards and best practices followed by the for-profit system's more than 70 hospitals.

In addition, the shareholder-owned organization must make the nonprofit system financially stable. The first task is to rebrand the organization and assimilate the physicians, employees, and volunteers into the new system.
