Organizational Behaviour
Three employees are laid off. Employee A describes it as the worst possible event and is experiencing high levels of stress. Employee B describes the lay-off as a great opportunity to try something else. Employee C indicates that she has been laid-off several times before so knows what will happen.
Describe some possible reasons why each employee reacted differently to this stressor in their lives. Try to think of reasons other than the processes going on in the General Adaptation Syndrome. The GAS is a good way of predicting what a person may experience but does not explain "why" a person goes through this process.
Here are some ideas:As for the assignment, it is supposed to be a discussion amongst ourselves, but the way I'm seeing it...For employees A and B (We should probably give them names...) it is their first rodeo, but the difference between the 2 is optimism vs pessimism. As for Employee C....You know what...Let's just call them Alex, Barry, and Chuck. It's not Chuck's first rodeo, he knows what's going to happen, and what he can, and cannot take to the labour board. Also, if you can think of gender neutral names starting with B and C, I'm all ears.
