Powel Lawton's Competence and Environmental Press theory would examine Bob's capabilities compared to the stress he is facing in his environment. It may be that Bob needs to be living in an environment that doesn't require so much work, or perhaps modifications could be made to Bob's home and/or people could help Bob take care of his home.
