Case study scenario:
Mateo is a seasoned educator with over 5 years of experience. He is excited to start a new role as the lead Educator in the preschool classroom, with 16 children and a new Assistant Educator Sarah, a recent RECE grad. Mateo has been working on implementing new strategies during routines and transitions, while mentoring Sarah and keeping her involoved with planning. Sarah shares that she has challenges during the outdoor play to lunch routines. More specifically Sarah shares that she is struggling with her small group; the children are running up and down the halls, they need extra support with getting ready, and other children are kept waiting in their winter clothes for a long period of time. Some children continue behaviours from outdoor play transition into large group and lunch routine. Mateo has observed the children raise their voices at Sarah and run away from her when she tries to redirect.
Sarah tries the strategies that Mateo has modeled but has found them ineffective. She is frusturated that she is unable to manage her small group and wants to request to be switched to another room.
