This week we are going to focus on a local Vancouver Island business, Portofino Bakery. Portofino manufactures and distributes a variety of bread and bakery products to a number of restaurants and grocery store chains in BC including Thrifty Foods and Save-On Foods. Portofino Bakery is a real business (described in video above and website here) that will serve as the focus for this discussion. However, the details about the business provided in the paragraph below to describe the need for business research at Portofino Bakery are fictional (i.e. made up, not based on known facts) for the purposes of this discussion.

Imagine that you were recently hired as the Manager of Business Development and Growth at Portofino Bakery. Portofino was founded some 15 years ago and has experienced a steady growth in sales and revenues over time. Over the past year, however, sales and revenue growth have levelled off. You were hired in the hopes that you can help with this. You know that reversing the downward trend in sales and revenue growth will not be easy but are confident that what you learned in MBAA 511 will help!

Clearly, you will need to undertake business research to answer the following research questions:

-What are the key factors contributing to the sales and revenue growth decline at Portofino Bakery over the past year?

-What actions can Portofino Bakery take to increase sales and revenue for 2021?

-**Please note that the above are Research Questions for the case NOT Discussion Questions for your post, the Discussion Questions are listed below under Q1 and Q2**You hope that designing and undertaking a business research study to address these two questions will allow you to accomplish two things. Firstly, to determine why sales and revenue growth have levelled off. Secondly, to identify what Portofino Bakery can do to increase sales and revenue moving forward.
