Case: Mary reported that she has no physical health concerns, nor does her children, however, her youngest daughter Tomyra was born premature at 34 week with heroin in her system.
Mary Grimes was born to Santiago Cortez& Yvonne Cobbs and grew up in Doniphan Missouri. Her parent sere married when she was 13 years old prior to marrying her parents were together for 12 years. Mary has two sisters and one brother who is deceased. Janet Cortez(37) Vicotria Cortez (30) Santiago Cortez JR. died in 2011 from a heroin overdose. Mary described growing up her mother worked as a nurse however due to her addiction to heroin she was laid off. Mary described how her mother's addiction and vengeful ways led to her parent's divorce. Mary described her childhood and how her mother would call her and her siblings name such as "bitchces' dumb asses and always yelling sometimes spanking and pulling her by her hair. She also demonizes them by calling them animals. Mary described being bullied and teased for the way she looked and dressed in high school. Mary stated she dropped out in the 10th grade. However she went on to get her GED in 2003 and continued her education at Three Rivers Community College earning a certification for paralegal and associate in Corrections, probation and parole. Mary described her SES as being a middle-class family. Mary stated as a child her relationship with her mother was not close Mary stated her mother passed in 2023 due to heroin. Mary also suffers from a heroin addiction that began in 2011 following the death of her brother. Mary blames her mother for her addiction. At one point in her life Mary thought that using heroin would help her relationship with her mother and bring them close. Mary states that she is very close with her sisters and described the two as supportive. Mary stated her relationship with her father is well and that he is very supportive. Mary stated her mother remarried when she was 27 however, she reported she never cared for him. She reported her stepfather is deceased. He too died from a heroin overdose in 2020. Mary described how her father was a working Laborer. Mary witnessed her parenting arguing often due to her mothers addiction. Later in life Mary married her first husband Brian Kinworthy in 2005 and divorced in 2011 who is the father of her two oldest daughter Brianna Kinworthy (18) and Madelye Kinworthy (15). She reported that the girls live with their father full-time since the divorce. She reported talking to the girls daily. The girls live in St. Louis Missouri. Mary has two sons who have different fathers. Trinton Hearring (13, and Brayden Garrison (8). Mary lost custody of her boys in 2021. The two live with their aunt. However, Mary reported that she has a great relationship with her sons and talks with them daily. Mary is presently married to Thomas Grimes the two share a Thomyra (2 months). She reports the two have separated since her husband learned that she was doing herion. Mary reported that she hid it from her husband and stated he never knew of her addiction. She reported being ashamed to tell him.
Mary reported being diagnosed with Depression, bipolar, anxiety, and personality disorder in 2019. Mary denies being put on any medications. In addition, Mary has a history of addiction to heroin. Mary lacked eye contact, she was casually groomed, and she continued to shake throughout the interview. Mary is on Methadone, she reports being on methadone since 2014. Mary reported she first used heroin in 2011 when she lost her brother, she reported using 2x per day ½ per day. She reported the last time she used was days prior to giving birth to her youngest daughter. Mary reported in 2014 when she was on methadone she stopped using heroin but relapsed following the death of her mother earlier this year. Mary reported she receives support from her husband , sisters and father. Mary is currently staying with a friend, she is not working however her father provides her with money as needed and she receives state benefits.
Mary describes her strengths as being honest, loving, happy, and compassionate. She described that she her protective factors are being a mother. She reported being motivated to be substance free and learning a better way to cope with grief and loss. Mary reported she last worked as an assisted manager at Mcdonald's and she is currently looking for employment.
