Assignment:

Refer to David Livermore's (2013) book, Expanding Your Borders: Discover 10 Cultural Clusters. If you do not have this book, you can access excerpts from it at. Also use additional online resources and, when possible, interviews with people from that culture.

1. Describe how Livermore uses the term "cultural cluster."

2. List the 10 clusters Livermore (2013) identifies in the table of contents of his book.

3. Understanding that the cultural clusters do not perfectly characterize all countries within the cluster and certainly not every individual within a given country, what are some benefits of learning about cultural differences and similarities?

4. Choose one of the 10 cultural clusters listed in question 2 above. List at least five specific ways you could adapt your behavior and attitudes to increase the effectiveness of your interactions with people of that culture. Consider day-to-day interactions in various settings (e.g., at school, at work, in the community) while in the U.S. and abroad. These may include strategies recommended in Expanding Your Resources, but you must use additional resources as well. Notice that some strategies (e.g., learning the language, showing interest) would apply to all cultures. Your strategies should be more specific than that.

5. Include in-text citations for the resources you used. Be sure that each of these resources is included in your reference list.
