OVERVIEW
Based on research on the design context and the client interview, use an ID model of your choice to come up with a design brief that includes product recommendations that you would produce. The project is introduced on the next page. Page 3 contains details of your final design specifications.
Scenario: Faculty Training for Flipped Class Model
The department chair of the Environmental Engineering department of a local university is interested in having faculty in his department use what has been referred to as The Flipped Classroom Model. He's heard people talk about the Flipped Class Model and read a few articles about its use; however, he is unclear how to best implement this model. He has contacted you to come and conduct a series of workshops for the faculty in the department.
Client Interview Process
As part of the instructional design process you will meet with the client to get a better understanding of what the client would like to see happen, what the desired outcomes are, and any organizational constraints. Your client may also have specific ideas on how they feel the product should look.
Flipped Class Model
You will likely need to do a little research on what this entails.
Product Design Specifications
Your task is to make recommendations for the final product that will teach faculty how to implement the flipped class model in their courses. You should select one ID model and explain the tasks and activities necessary to complete the project.
Your assignment should use the Product Design Specifications template that starts on the next page.
Product Design Specifications
Instructional Designer(s): [include name(s)]
Client:
Who is the client? This is the person or persons who have the power to decide whether you are doing your job. What is their understanding of your role?
Audience(s):
Briefly outline the audience/stakeholders of the products.
Project Goal:
What is the client initial expectations of the project?
Objectives
What are the objectives for your project?
Your Project/Product
This is a brief description of the project/product you've decided to develop, and you feel is the best way to accomplish the objectives. This should include:
• E.g., Delivery mode for your "Workshop"- e.g., web site, training, online materials, etc. This may include more than one of delivery method.
• Justification for your decision (why did you make the choices you did?)
Means
What is the best way to accomplish the objective?
Here's where you might say, "Design a web site (or ad campaign or brochure.)" Always keep this issue open while you are exploring the other aspects of the project. The project details section is where you will expand upon this.
Project Plan Details
ProjectTasks
Select an ISD model to organize your project task list. Explain briefly your rationale for selecting that model.List specific tasks necessary to complete project.
Resources
Describe necessary resources for this project. This includes, personnel, any software and hardware resources, space for implementation, etc. If you think through the process, imagine all the things you will need to complete this within the context of your design and identify.
Product Specifications
This section is for production team. Identify any specific details about deliverables
Evaluation
Briefly describe how will you evaluate the worth and/or merit of the product.
Reflection
This section is for you to reflect on the process in this context:
• Describe any limitations or constraints for completing the project. This could be limitationssuch as technology, time, learning competencies, and conditions.
• What more did you feel you would need to know to be able to complete this?
• What questions did you wish you or someone else had asked during the client interview?
