Your grade will be based on the following:
a) Did you use marketing and consumer behavior vocabulary appropriately?
b) Did you demonstrate a deep understanding of the core concepts in the course related to the questions asked?
c) Are your responses creative?
d) Are your responses thorough?
Please answer the following questions in about 500 words each. Be sure to divide the questions into sections, not one big paragraph:
1.) Choose a product or brand from your home country (or another state or country if you are from New York) that is not widely consumed in the U.S. (or New York). Provide a link to an advertisement for the product. If the company wanted to market this product in New York, would you recommend a localized or a global promotion strategy? Justify your response and indicate the advantages and disadvantages of each type of strategy for this product in the U.S. (or New York) market.
2.) Identify a product, service or style that was recently adopted by you and/or some of your friends. Identify what type of innovation it is and describe its diffusion process up to this point in time. At what stage in the product lifecycle is this product? What are the characteristics of the people who adopted it first? What type of people do you expect may never adopt it, and why? Using the five product features that affect adoption, evaluate the product's potential for wide adoption.
3.) Think about your daily routines. Identify one routine that you consider a ritual. Describe it and explain why it is a ritual. Assume that you allow a marketing researcher to come to your house and observe your entire ritual. Explain how the marketer of a product you use during your routine earn employs the observation to design an advertisement to get you to switch brands.
4.) List and discuss at least four reference groups that influence your purchases. For each group, indicate whether its influence is comparative or normative (or possibly both) and explain your answers.
