Professional Development Goal
The Purpose
This assignment is to help you better understand yourself, how others may view you, and your experiences throughout this course in terms of cognitions, emotions, team processes,leadership, communication, and personal strengths and opportunities for improvement by reflecting on what you have learned throughout the course. You will also learn to construct a personal development goal related to your leadership communication. Setting a personal development goal and then outlining small actions or steps you will take to improve in this area, with targeted outcomes and monitoring your progress, is an effective method for increasing one's leadership skills and personal effectiveness. The process of monitoring your progress is an iterative process in which you may find that your initial goals or actions are not the real issue, and you go through a process of tweaking the process so that you positively impact your development. Practicing this process engages you in lifelong development not only professionally but also personally.
The Objectives
I. The student will considertheir strengths and challenges and develop personal development plans to improve their leadership communication effectiveness continuously.
II. Student will synthesize their values and desired professional brand and understand how this influences their professional practices and interactions with others.
III. Student will monitor their metacognitive awareness and how this affects their communication, decision-making processes, planning, and behaviors.
Directions
I. Personal Reflection process:
The personal reflection process is an opportunity to summarize and organize your thoughts about what you have learned about your leadership skills. Answer the following questions before developing your personal goal:
Question 1) What are your three top professional values?
Question 2) Describe in what is your desired professional brand.
Question 3) What are your strengths and weaknesses in your leadership communication?
Question 4) Describe at least one goal that you are committed to working on to improve your leadership communication.
II. Personal Development Plan
The personal development plan is an integral final part of this course. Life-long personal effectiveness development is an integral part of our professional lives and is also necessary for success in our personal lives. This last part of this assignment involves you developing at least one goal related to your leadership communication to strive towards improving through small steps and actions. Remember, intrapersonal and interpersonal development is a life-long process and a practice we all must revisit repeatedly. Please use the template below to complete his portion of the assignment.
