Question: Your responses may be written in point form. Make sure the ideas are clear, thorough, and complete.
Read the following scenario:
Your center staff has been working with a single parent whose
child is displaying physically and verbally aggressive behavior
towards staff and children at the center. Although there has been
some progress, it is difficult for others to see. One day a father of
two other children in your care demands that you remove the aggressive child or he will withdraw his two children.
Think about all the possible positive and negative solutions to this problem and the consequences of each. For each alternative, describe:
Who or what will be helped?
Who or what will be hurt?
The specific benefits and harms (negative effects of expelling or requiring children to withdraw from program).
The short and long-term consequences.
Use the Code of Ethics (included in the unit two assignment folder) which describes the core values, ideals and principles child care practitioners use to guide their practices.
Identify principles that apply to this situation.
Describe which of these principles is most important in this situation and why.
Describe how you will respond to this father who demands removing the aggressive child. As you think through the response is there anything a centre should have in place to help respond to the father?
