Assignment:
Real-World Application: Modeling Human Behavior (PLG1) ESVS 201
You have read that models can help us estimate a variety of factors. We can use research to study human behavior, for example, response time during an evacuation in a hotel, and use models to input this date and estimate egress capacity and evacuation times. Models can be powerful tools, but are designed for a specific purpose and require hard (i.e., defined-such as fire dynamics) or soft (i.e., less defined-such as human behavior) data. Additionally, each model has advantages, disadvantages, and inherent limitations that the user must understand.
After all, humans have free will, and, therefore, cannot be completely predictable!
Instructions
For this assignment, you are to identify a model from page 94 of the SFPE Guide to Human Behavior in Fire and write a report on how the model works (the intended use), and the advantages, disadvantages, and limitations of that model. Describe what type of data is required and what data is outputted. Finally, describe how this model impacts the fire service, and indicate any areas you believe need improvement.
