TONE OF THE ENVIRONMENT
How does it feel to live, play and work here everyday? Use Prekindergarten Learning and Development Guidelines (pg. 32) to evaluate the environment in terms of physical space, lighting and color, display areas, texture, auditory surroundings. You should read the pages above BEFORE writing.
PROGRAM CLIMATE
Use the list on page 87 of the Prekindergarten Learning and Development Guidelines to describe how the program climate, organization and routine create a sense of safety, security and predictability.
SUPERVISION AND SAFETY
Is this program safe? Is there enough staff to meet the needs of children? Do staff practice dual focus when they supervising a group of children? Read the list of program characteristics on the top of page 34 of the Prekindergarten Learning and Development Guidelines.
HEALTH
Is this a healthy place? How did it smell? Were hand-washing procedures practiced? Was the room clean? Did you see evidence of health practices and procedures from the top of page 35 of the Prekindergarten Learning and Development Guidelines.
ARRANGEMENT FOR LEARNING
Was the environment arranged to optimize learning, facilitate movement, minimize distractions and organize children's play? Was it interesting, engaging and age appropriate? Give examples to demonstrate how the guidelines on pages 35-37 of the Prekindergarten Learning and Development Guidelines were or were not met.
SOCIAL and EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Describe how the staff is or is not responsive to children's emotional needs. Use the criteria on page 86 of the Prekindergarten Learning and Development Guidelines and give examples to demonstrate.
ACCESSIBILITY AND SUPPORT OF FAMILIES
Was this center welcoming, accessible and supportive of families and children from diverse cultures?
How were families welcomed?
Is the center accessible to children with disabilities? What accommodations are made? Give examples of ways the program did or did not meet the criteria listed on pages 37-39 of the Prekindergarten Learning and Development Guidelines
PHYSICAL AND MOTOR DEVELOPMENT From page 123 of the Prekindergarten Learning and Development Guidelines, Describe how the environment is set up for gross motor, fine motor, oral motor and sensorimotor development.
