Case Study:
Kelly, a first-year nursing student, tells her instructor that she thinks she may be pregnant and wonders what she should do. The instructor recommends that Kelly go to the campus health center for a pregnancy test. When Kelly's test is positive, she again discusses her case with her instructor. As a single woman, Kelly decides she cannot support a child now but is not sure whether to have the baby and put it up for adoption or to have an abortion. After a few days and a discussion with the father of the child, their decision is to have an abortion. Kelly returns to the campus health clinic for her test results so that she can take them to the abortion clinic. The nurse refuses to give Kelly the test results, saying, "You'll have to talk to the nurse practitioner. I don't believe in abortion." The nurse practitioner gives Kelly the laboratory results.
