Question: Gastric acid is a digestive fluid that is made with the help of parietal cells in the stomach lining. The parietal cell plasma membrane maintains a concentration gradient of potassium ions between the cell cytoplasm and the extracellular fluid. During the formation of gastric acid, potassium moves down this gradient, passing from the cytoplasm into the extracellular space. Briefly describe how potassium ions move across the plasma membrane of a parietal cell during gastric acid formation.
