Write a two-page paper (APA format) based upon your response to questions from the Skills Survey:

It is important that you assess your strengths and weaknesses as a Human Services professional.

1) Select 2-3 skills from the Skills Survey that you consider to be a personal strengths, as well as 2-3 skills that you need to work on.

Strengths:

-Good Listener

-I feel very comfortable speaking and looking someone in the eyes while I'm talking

Weaknesses:

-If I do not hear someone correctly, I usually do not ask the person to repeat themselves to clarify things.

-Sometimes I have a hard time staying focused on one subject. I get sidetracked and start talking about another subject.

-Organization

2) Describe how each of these skills are integrated into your own character, personality, and work. Tap into all your past helping experiences as a friend, family member, volunteer, and worker to discuss how these skills can be seen in your own helping experiences.

I am active duty Navy, a mom, wife, and I volunteer at an elementary school regularly with first graders

3) Suggest ways in which you can work on strengthening or further testing those areas that seem weakest to you. Try to be as specific as you can.

General statements such as, "I'll get more experience," are too broad. A better approach would be to state, "I will try to get over my shyness by taking some public speaking courses or joining a club and taking on a leadership role."
