1. Describe how an alternating generator works.

2. When an electric motor is operated at 1600 rpm the counter emf is 94V. What would the counter emf be if its speed were increased to 1800 rpm.

3. The magnetic field of a certain motor is produced by solenoids whose windings are connected in parallel with the armature across the same potential difference of 115V. The coils have a resistance of 60.0 ohms and the armature a resistance of 4.0 ohms. When the motor is running at full speed, the back emf is 105 V.

a) What is the total current drawn by the motor when it is running at full speed?

b) What is the total current drawn by the motor when it is running at full speed?

c) What is the total current drawn by the motor when it is running at half speed?
