Case Study Scenario You are a home and community care support worker visiting Sam, a new client who has recently had a stroke. Sam is a family man with two sons and worked as a truck driver up until his recent stroke but is now unemployed. You arrive at Sam's house to find the front door open and can hear Sam aggressively yelling at his 15-year old son in a very threatening manner. Everyone goes quiet when you arrive and the boy rushes past you, in tears, to leave the house.

Describe four (4) verbal and nonverbal communication skills you can use to communicate service information clearly and effectively with Sam, to ensure he understands you and that you listen to his concerns.You have identified that this is an early sign of a potentially difficult or complicated situation. Describe your legal and ethical responsibility in regard to this incident, although the child is not a client directly in your care. Compose a short paragraph to report this incident to your supervisor, using clear and accurate language in describing this event and your concerns.

As a result of this incident, you identify that your organisation lacks clear procedures about reporting events. This incident highlights a gap in our organization's procedures regarding the reporting of potentially abusive situations witnessed during home visits. I recommend that we develop clear guidelines and protocols for such situations, including steps for reporting, escalation, and intervention. This will not only protect our clients and their families but also provide support and guidance to our staff in handling such difficult situations.
