During the pandemic many underserved populations did not receive safety net benefits because of stigma and discrimination. Underserved populations included people with disabilities, people of color, impoverished women and their families, and other marginalized groups. When discriminatory human service providers consistently label and stigmatize a group of people, they are less likely to seek and receive the governmental benefits that safety net programs provide for families.
Write a journal reflection that addresses the following:
Question 1. Describe four safety net programs in the human service industry.
Question 2. Analyze the safety net programs that failed during the pandemic.
Question 3. Identify the discrimination and stigma associated with income loss during the pandemic and the ways that underserved (i.e., women, people of color, disabled) populations were affected.
Question 4. Examine how emotional intelligence and transformational leadership can provide solutions that aid these underserved populations when resources are scarce.
